Squad Spotlight

Part of my mission with Harper & Sky Lifestyle was to assemble a diverse team of strong women who all have different stories, backgrounds, and goals. BUT.. all with a similar mission and desire to strive to be their best selves, while spreading motivation and encouragement to others along the way. A true influencer, if you will.

Luckily, I've been able to form some really amazing friendships within the group we have, and their stories continue to touch my heart and inspire me every single day. It's all just a daily reminder how we're part of something so much bigger, and of course- that the sky is the limit.

"One of my top missions as a fitness instructor and personal trainer is to make sure my clients feel comfortable in their own skin. I want them to know that working out is a celebration of their body. Motivation is a big factor for any lifestyle change or habit change. Fitness apparel is what started me getting back into the lifestyle and continues to help motivate me to get my workout in. Sure, fitness apparel is fun to wear casually, but I want to earn it, though!

My journey started when I attended a cardio kickboxing class and the instructor saw something in me and thought I should get certified as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. So, of course I did it. She saw something in me that never would have crossed my mind if she hadn't first planted that seed. After more experience and a few years down the road, I created my own fitness company Refresh Fitness
It wasn't always so easy, though. When I entered the fitness industry in 2012, I quickly realized how cutthroat it was. I entered into fitness so I could use my gift of teaching and motivating others, and what I found out is that the industry is the OPPOSITE of what I wanted to be an example of. People are so hard on each other. Expecting fitness instructors to look and act a certain way ... Gross. Those expectations and standards don't fly with me!

I didn't give up though. I love fitness so I was set to change the way people view fitness instructors and fitness classes. I set out on my own to find a tribe that had the same perspective that I had when it comes to loving people back to life. I came across Train Dirty Fitness (TDF). TDF is located in Tennessee but I met people from all over the United States when getting involved with this group. I started out as an Ambassador of the group (which also helped grow my fitness following), and moved right on up the ranks into a Master Trainer and the Assistant Lead Master Trainer.

My experiences in the fitness industry have helped me grow into the person I want to be for others. Since I was a child, I always looked to find the positive in others, even when they don't see it in themselves. I love leading by example this way and the gifts I have in teaching fitness has coupled very well together. I have clients who have followed me all over the gyms I teach at in the QC because of how I teach and how I treat them. And although I love that I have met and grown close to others all over the United States, I LOVE the fact that I have a local group of people I can connect and grow with everyday.

In all my years of training,  I have yet to finish a week and not look at the world in a new way. The change isn't just physical appearance, it's mental...the true beauty. I get to see the determination, motivation, inspiration. I feel my clients' energy, power, and confidence. All of which are heroic characteristics to me. In fact, all of my clients are my heroes.  Who else can say they get to train with their heroes everyday? I do!

I'm grateful to be healthy, confident, leading, and loving many people back to their health. It's all because of that one instructor who saw something in me; I'm here to pay it back a million times."

Thank you, Bree, for sharing your story with us!
